The newly formed Red Squirrel Brewery in Hertford announces the commissioning of its brand new ten-barrel brewery.
For the past three months Red Squirrel Brewery has been developing its unique range of the highest quality handcrafted ales on a two-and-a-half barrel prototype brew plant.
To coincide with the commissioning of the new plant, Red Squirrel Brewery will donate one penny to Red Squirrel Conservation for every pint of Conservation Bitter sold.
The beer has been exceptionally well received at beer festivals, and just like the Red Squirrel, rare and quickly disappears when people are around. The hope is to make Conservation Bitter a best seller. Therefore by drinking Conservation Bitter the general public will be helping British Conservation.
Gary Hayward named the brewery Red Squirrel, after the unique sub-species of squirrel indigenous to the British Isles, which is fighting for survival against strong competition from the introduced Grey Squirrel, disease, and environmental destruction. Recent reports have stated that in some areas of Britain the Red Squirrel is so rare that the gene pool is not sufficiently diverse to maintain the species. This puts it in the same class of endangerment as the Bengal Tiger and the White Rhino. The difference being the Red Squirrel is right here in the British Isles, and conservation begins at home.
